    Celebrity Wanna-Be, General News, Media

The Heene parents masterminded a hoax claiming their young son, Falcon, floated away on a homemade weather balloon that was improperly tethered. Their bogus claim led to a massive hunt with local and federal authorities. However, an investigation after the boy was found in the family attic proved that the claims were a publicity stunt to garner reality television and media offers for stories. The young boy even said so by mistake on live television shortly after he was “found.”

Now, Mr. Heene has been sentenced to 90 days in prison, thirty of which must be served “straight” and the other 60 he can be granted “work release” which simply means he can work during the day but must report to prison at night. Mrs. Heene avoided jail time for her role and was given 20 days of supervised public service work. Both parents have also been handed four years of supervised probation during which the court has ordered that the family not profit from the situation with media interviews, books, articles, shows, etc.

In addition, the family also faces restitution. Various government agencies claim the manhunt cost over $47,000 and the Federal Aviation Administration is seeking a seperate $11,000 penalty. Mr. Heene addressed the court prior to his sentencing, “I do want to reiterate that I’m very, very sorry, and I want to apologize to all the rescue workers out there and people who got involved.” Larimer County Judge Stephen Schapanski countered the case was all about “deception … exploitation of the children of the Heenes, exploitation of the media, exploitation of the emotions of people — and it’s about money.”

I think the Heenes are pretty disgusting, mostly for wasting the collective time of the nation for possibly one of the dumbest reasons I’ve ever heard. However, I can hardly justify jail time and extraordinary shit like four years of probation. The restitution, naturally, makes sense and they should be blocked from profiting from the situation given that it was their initial intention. However bad these parents are, it has to beat uprooting one of them and putting them in prison and possibly bankrupting the family as a whole. Justice would be a difficult word to use here. I just hope Mr. Heene starts loosening his asshole with dildos before he has to report to prison on January 11th ’cause someone’s gonna pop that cherry.
